NATIONAL REPRESENTATION

AFGE is in the middle of every battle involving the well-being of federal and D.C. employees and their families.  We lobby the White House, work in agencies, litigate in court and lobby in the halls of Congress.  AFGE is all about producing results that positively affect our members’ lives.

At the National Level, a full-time staff is employed to fight for the rights of all federal and District of Columbia government employees.  For instance, the General Counsel's office ensures the legality of any actions for or against  federal workers, the Women's and Fair Practices Departments are devoted to promoting the civil, human, women's and worker's rights of these employees, the Legislative Department reviews, interprets and lobbies on the Hill for, or against, all proposed Bills that affect but cannot be negotiated by federal employees.  Some of their major accomplishments include Hatch Act Reform; Family Friendly Programs (Leave Donor Program, Family and Medical Leave Act, Alternate Work Schedules, etc.).
