BONUS BUCKS MEMBERSHIP DRIVE!

AFGE National is joining with our membership committee to host and organize a membership drive through March 4, 2010.  For every co-worker you recruit, you will earn $50 ($20 from the National Union  and $30 from our District 14 office).  And, if you submit three or more membership applications, you’ll receive an AFGE briefcase-style navy canvas bag with leather trim, an automatic entry into a drawing for a FREE LAPTOP COMPUTER and an iPod to the top recruiter in each Distinct.  Further details about the Bonus Bucks program are available from Wilma Hutchins (our membership chairperson) at 703-516-1590.

WE MUST BUILD OUR UNION SO THAT WE CAN:

  • Suspend all A-76 studies;
  • Raise the cap on GS pay so that all employees can receive the cost of living and locality pay adjustments;
  • Restore Labor/Management Parrtnerships;
  • Increase the premium split for health insurance from 70/30 to 80/20;
  • Enact paid parental leave;
  • Get equal benefits for registered domestic partners of federal employees;
  • Return "Good Government" to the US Taxpayers;
  • Ensure that FERS employees get retirement credit for unused sick leave; and
  • Reduce FEHBP costs by getting the Medicare Part D subsidy.

HERE ARE SOME OF THE UNION'S VICTORIES TO PROTECT FEDERAL EMPLOYEES AND THEIR JOBS:

  • Repealed the National Security Personnel System (NSPS) for GS workers;
  • Fought for and won pay increases worth 8.9% more than what President Bush tried to impose since 2001;
  • Developed bipartisan alliances in Congress;
  • Made sure blue collar employees, plus all employees at DOD and DHS, got the same pay raise as other federal employees;
  • Blocked contracting out of inherently governmental functions.

AFGE, Proud to Make America Work.

Did you Know?

Discipline is a tool used by a  supervisor to correct inappropriate or unacceptable behavior.  Discipline should be progressive, in that the severity of the penalty  increases each time an employee breaks the rule.  Typically, the progression is from oral warnings to written  warnings to suspensions and, finally termination.  Prior to imposing discipline, a supervisor should determine whether "just cause" exists.  Find out the seven tests for just cause.
