AMERICAN FEDERATION OF GOVERNMENT EMPLOYEES · AFL-CIO, LOCAL 1534

The American Federation of Government Employees (AFGE) is the largest federal employee union representing 600,000 federal and D.C. government workers nationwide and overseas. Workers in virtually all functions of government at every federal agency depend upon AFGE for legal representation, legislative advocacy, technical expertise and informational services.  AFGE takes seriously its responsibility to help provide good government services, while ensuring that government workers are treated fairly and with dignity.

The union is headquartered in Washington, D.C., and divided into 12 geographical districts consisting of some 1,100 locals.  Over one-half of AFGE’s members are consolidated into agency-wide bargaining units.  As a federal employee, you receive representation at both the National and Local (Agency) levels.

AFGE Local 1534 (Local 1534) represents Civil Servant Bargaining Unit employees at the U.S. Department of State (DOS), The United States Agency for International Development (USAID), and the Overseas Private Investment Corporation (OPIC) in the Washington, D.C. metropolitan area.  It's mission is to (1) secure good and improved working conditions of covered employees; (2) secure and assure fair and decent treatment by agency management of individual covered employees; (3) represent covered employees in relation to agency management for purposes of securing desirable working conditions and proper individual treatment; and (4) promote desirable group activities, among covered employees, so as to promote the social, economic and cultural good of these employees.
